The Iconic Heritage Burberry Trench Coat

Over the weekend I visited the Burberry store at The Limegrove Lifestyle Center. Upon entering the store I was greeted by an impressive display of Burberry trench coats and I was reminded how truly exquisite they were. Originally created to protect officers from wind and rain, the Burberry trench coat has evolved over 100 years to become an icon, representing timeless British style and design innovation. At the heart of the Burberry trench coat story is the tightly woven cloth that sets it apart from all others. Invented by Thomas Burberry in 1879, gabardine revolutionised rainwear. The Burberry trench coat is presented in three colours taken from the Burberry Heritage Archive – honey, stone and black – and three fits. See more of the Burberry Trench coat below and click here to see what London hotels give you a Burberry Trench for the duration of your stay.

The SoCo Hotel: South Beach Style & Caribbean flair

I had the pleasure of visiting the new SoCo Hotel a couple weeks ago and I’ve been eager to share my experience ever since. The hotel first caught my eye when they reopened last year and I saw images of their super chic and contemporary rooms on their Facebook page, so I was naturally thrilled when Tashida Cox from Virgo Communications Inc. invited me for lunch and a tour. The décor of the hotel is certainly very unique when compared to most in Barbados thus setting it aside from the rest. Upon entering the lobby, you feel as if you have been transported to a chic hotel in South Beach, which instantly won me over. The décor was what first drew me to the hotel but the view of the South Coast and boardwalk is the true highlight of this boutique hotel.

The staff was also very welcoming and accommodating. Manager Christine Dieffenthaller greeted me in the lobby and gave me a tour of the fully occupied hotel, showing me both a SoCo Room and SoCo Deluxe Room. These 24 ultra-modern style rooms have white leather upholstered headboards and sofas, crushed bamboo veneered furniture, providing a light, fresh, modern "less is more" atmosphere and sweeping views.

Foodie Files: Healthy & Quick Recipes

It is no secret that I love food but recently I have been trying to include healthier meals into my diet. While eating healthy is important to me it is still important that I enjoy what I am eating as well. Last week I shared some yummy gluten free options ( and instead ate copious amounts of bread on my trip) . I returned from vacation on Wednesday and have set my goal for the following weeks to introduce more healthier options to my diet so while at the grocery yesterday I kept these recipes in mind as I shopped. See some of my simple, healthy and quick picks below!

Spring Table Setting Ideas

Ready for spring? Start by refreshing your table with crisp linens, potted blooms, and a pop of bright color. In Barbados we don't experience seasons really, for the most part it's consistently sunny with a rainy reason however it is still nice to change up your decor and spring is the perfect time to do it. House Beautiful put together a stunning array of Spring Tabletops full of decor inspiration.  For Tory Burch, setting the table can be the most creative outlet of all. "Just try different things," she says. "Patterns you wouldn't think to put together can surprise you, and look great."

Celebrity Kitchens

I don't know where the fascination comes from with celebrities and celebrity homes but I for one enjoy seeing how the other half lives. Celebrity closets are by far the highlight of celebrity home tours in my opinion as an excess of Birkin's and Louboutins are on display. These kitchens that I saw on PopSugar caught my eye not because of their grandeur as ordinarily celeb homes do but because of their character and overall good design. See the whole story by the ever talented Angela Elias on Popsugar here

Seriously Stylish Kids

Who said kids can't be fashionable too? While it may not be terribly practical to shell out lots of cash on expensive baby and kids clothes sometimes it's hard to resist. It recently came to my attention that there are kids fashion blogs and while I'm still undecided on how I feel about the whole idea there is no denying that cute kids and stylish clothes are a win - win for me. Who What Wear recently compiled a list of "21 kids who dress better than you" and I've picked my favourite outfits, these kids have undeniable swag and style! See the whole story and list here

Easter Decorating Ideas

Easter weekend is upon us and this means different things for different people.  Last year I was in West Palm Beach and went to Christ Fellowship at City place both Friday and Sunday and it was a wonderful experience. I am in Saba this year with my family and celebrating a little differently than last but still keeping the reason for the season at the forefront of my mind. Apart from the obvious reason for Easter it is also a good excuse to decorate, and in my family eat Cadbury's Mini Eggs. Below are some of my favourite Easter decorating ideas from Better Homes and Gardens.

Going Gluten Free : Our favourite recipes!

Gluten free food and gluten free living have been a popular topic recently and I know a few people who have been embracing this healthier lifestyle. While I believed in the benefits I was hesistant, mainly because I assumed I could no longer eat anything yummy. I am by no means an authority on gluten-free but from what I have learnt, eating gluten free foods helps with improving cholesterol levels, promoting digestive health, and increasing energy levels among many others After learning a bit more about the benefits I looked into what I deem very important - what can I eat? I was pleasantly surprised when I came across a variety of enticing gluten-free dishes on Simply Recipes. See some of my favourites below. If you are lucky enough to have a Whole Foods in your area they offer a variety of options which are well labelled and even in Barbados while the options are less, supermarkets and even some restaurants are offering gluten free alternatives.

At home with Charles Spada

I'm almost embarrassed to say that I only recently learnt of Charles Spada and it's fair to say it was love at first sight. Charles Spada Interiors was established in 1980 after Spada left a successful career of designing women’s apparel in New York City and Boston. His trademark style is the use of a well-edited color palette, fabrics that play with texture, exposed stone and wood floors. The first space I saw from Spada was on the pages of one of my favourite magazines; Traditional Home and was coincidentally his personal home. Spada's work has also been featured in Elle Décor, House Beautiful, and Veranda and has achieved many awards.  See more and shop the look below!

Authentically Bajan : Sea Reinas Swimwear

Living on an island, swimwear is a wardrobe staple and yet it can sometimes be a challenge to find the perfect "suit". I first fell in love with Sea Reinas when I saw the image below from their Wanderlust campaign. The location, model and colour scheme were clearly well thought out and executed brilliantly as the breathtaking surroundings compliment the true focal piece - the "Snorkel" bikini from the Pavilion collection!

The Burberry Trench & Luxury London hotels team up

The Burberry trench is a wardrobe staple especially when in London. Burberry and luxury hotels; Claridges, The Connaught, and Berkeley hotels have teamed up with a unique shopping concept. When staying at any of the above mentioned hotels a Burberry trench in your size will await you in your wardrobe when you check in. All you have to do is request said size when you reserve the room, and then let Burberry and your hotel do the rest. The Burberry trench is yours to wear as much as you like during your stay and if you fall in love during the process you simply add it to your bill when you check out.

Walkers World: Crazy for Cushions

LDB loves Walkers World and I am loving their newest shipment of throw cushions. I am a big fan of throw cushions as they are a cost effective way to change up a space. I always suggest selecting a neutral sofa and then changing out cushions as you go along. Below are some of my favourites in more neutral colour ways, including some of my favourite things - The Caribbean, coastal elements and elephants! See more of their fun colourful cushions by visiting their website or following them on Facebook.

Festival Fashion

Coachella is fast approaching and the trendsetters are sure to be out in their best festival fashions. Festivals like Coachella seem to have their own dress code and the attendees always look so effortless and cool embodying the “boho chic” look and lifestyle.  Coachella 2014 will be here in just 2 days and I can't wait to see the fashion for this year. Today I take a look back at the festival fashion from 2013, shop the look below.

Contemporary, Coastal & Cozy Condo

Style at Home is one of my favourite publications but sadly we do not get them in Barbados. I still check their website often and came across this gem over the weekend. The first image was beautiful and the articles title caught my attention because it incorporated my design philosophy and my businesses trademark love where you live, "For these Surrey, B.C., empty nesters, downsizing means truly loving where you live." The home combines contemporary design, subtle coastal elements and stunning accessories to create a simple and warm space.

Iris Apfel : Her sale, her style & her apartment

This week has been hectic and I have definitely neglected the blog. I have a back up of amazing posts that I will be working on next week from Antigua and cannot wait to share. Though things have been busy I had to share these shots from Architectural Digest of the interior of the iconic Iris Apfel's Manhattan, NYC Apartment. Her highly anticipated sale on One Kings Lane starts tomorrow and I have been dreaming about the eclectic treasures that will be available ever since I saw the article on Elle Decor last week! "Think finds she picked up at Paris flea markets in the '40s,  souks in Marrakech in the 60s, the square in Santa Fe in the '70s"
