Runway to Room : Inspired by Men

The Runway to Room series inspired by my love for fashion and interiors, is quickly become one of the popular features on the blog. Up until now the series has featured only women's fashion but as proven by the gentleman below, they also have a lot to offer. This Runway to Room series is inspired by the stylish men below and how I imagine their looks would translate into a room.
I love masculine spaces and I remember at one point coming across a picture of "Chuck Bass" and thinking his outfit would translate into an incredibly chic man cave. The outfit and study above are both masculine and stylish. Both have a sophisticated feeling enhanced by details. The leather chair in the study is in my eyes the standout piece room in the space with it's rich colour contrasted against the darkly painted brick wall. The coat is also the star of the outfit complimented by all the other perfectly edited details of the outfit.

DREAM HOME: (Exclusive) The Ferrara Home VIA RUE

Online magazines and other design blogs can be your best friend when searching for inspiration and I love when I come across something new and fresh. Rue magazine is one of my favourite online publications and I look forward to their new issues greatly. They also have a fab website which includes interiors, fashion, lifestyle and entertaining. A couple weeks ago I came across this space on their site and filed it for design inspiration.

Built for the Parade of Homes showcase in St. George Utah, this home boasts contemporary design at it's best. Designers from Alice Lane Home Collection created a refined space with clean lines and thoughtful accents. One of my favourite parts about this home is the fact that it does not feel like a show home and is filled with character.

Makeup Trends guest post by makeup artist Kia *

I am a Barbados born Makeup Artist and Hair Stylist in love with all things fashion forward. I am so honored to be a guest blogger on LDB, thanks to Natasha for this awesome opportunity to share my knowledge with all of you and I'm looking forward to your comments and feedback!

A few of this year's makeup trends have been punchy lip colors, subtle Au Naturale makeup and definitely some serious eye definition! If any of you have followed the trends, you can see that some of these are definitely runway and runway only, but here we will have some fun making the looks your own while you keep up with the latest looks! The first trend that I absolutely love and I think is stunning on every skin tone is the punchy lip. We saw a lot of oranges used this Spring, and it's a such a fun color and looks amazing on all skin tones! As makeup artist Gucci Westman said, "it's not about being sweet", so let's amp up the fierceness!

Louis Vuitton presents The Capucine

I was very excited when I received the information and images about this new bag by Louis Vuitton. Apart from the bag itself being perfection the whole campaign is breathtaking and the behind the scenes images photographed by Gerard Uferas which showcase the details and process only made my appreciation for this piece grow. The Capucine by Louis Vuitton is the new signature bag that embodies the elegance and values of the Maison. The name is a homage to the earliest days of the LV Maison born in  Rue des Capucines in Paris where Louis Vuitton opened his first store in 1854.

Fans in Barbados can visit the The Louis Vuitton store at Limegrove Lifestyle Centre to get their hands on the Capucine bag. Louis Vuitton in Barbados is also the only store in the region to carry the Capucine bag made from rare and precious crocodile skin, so this is quite a treat!

Dark and Sophisticated : Shop The Look

I'm loving this fabulous dark and sophisticated living room which was featured almost a year ago on one of my favourite Interior Design Blogs : La Dolce Vita by the incredibly inspiring and talented Paloma Contreras. I love the colour scheme of this space and the sophistication of the carefully curated furniture and accessories. Another element that I'm loving which at first glance you may not notice because I didn't, is the fantastic floor to ceiling mirrors which flank the fireplace feature wall making the space seem much larger and grander. Shop this look below.

Foodie Friday : Seafood

Blame it on The Food Network, Martha Stewart and the food blogs I follow but I am becoming quite a foodie. Seafood is one of my all time favourite foods and living on an island I have been very spoilt over the years especially since my mums family loves to fish. Some of my fondest memories at the beach house have been when my cousin, uncles and grandfather come in with fish, crab and lobster and my Gran puts them straight to cook for a fresh meal. Below I have included some of my Seafood Pasta recipe picks from Martha Stewart online.

Coastal Inspired : Shop the Look

I love coastal decor and Coastal Living is one of my go to magazines when looking for inspiration. I came across this space on their website and was quite smitten. The space has a coastal feel due to its natural textures and coastal accessories but the modern interpretations such as the ikat print chairs set it apart from traditionally coastal spaces. I don't know whether to call it a design trend or style but I when I think about coastal design I think more about a lifestyle and comfort than anything else. Shop the look below and get this coastal look by pairing natural elements such as a jute rug or wicker basket with a comfy sofa and unexpected print in a similar colour way.

MAC Spring Summer 2014 Trends & Collections

I am a longtime fan of MAC cosmetics and I have to admit I was a little jealous when Rachel from Living Barbados magazine got to sit down in Jamaica with MAC Director of makeup artistry, Mr Romero Jennings. I followed along intently via Living's Facebook page as Mr Jennings presented some of MAC's Spring/ Summer 2014 makeup trends. The trends were demonstrated on both Miss Jamaica Universe and Miss Jamaica World. I recently met up with Rachel and subsequently bombarded her with questions about the new trends and collections, one of mine being "Fantasy of Flowers".

Archers Hall - St. Peters Bay

One thing I pride myself on is to only feature things that I truly love on the blog so I'm thrilled to work with Archers Hall again this year. My appreciation and love for Archers Hall grows each time I go into their design centre or retail store. The blog posts are equally exciting for me as I get to familiarize myself even more with their stunning portfolio of timelessly elegant projects. Archers Hall has a diverse portfolio having worked on some of the most luxurious properties and developments on the island. What I love about their work is that the are incredibly versatile and do not limit their designs to a particular period or style.

Their work at St. Peters Bay is a perfect example of their unique design style and a testament to their versatility. They describe this particular project as transitional and in my opinion they have masterfully blended traditional and tropically modern pieces to create a truly timeless transitional space. See more of their portfolio here.

Louis Vuitton RTW Fall/ Winter Collection

I seem to have caught the fashion bug and have been following Paris Fashion Week through various fashion blogs and on Instagram and was especially excited towards the close of Paris Fashion Week as Nicolas Ghesquiere debuted his first line for Louis Vuitton. I watched on the Louis Vuitton webpage as the countdown to the show began and then finally the time came and I sat down with my ipad and a cup of coffee and watched intently, (I have watched it twice since then). Opening with leather interpretations followed by floral themes, elegant and practical silhouettes made their way down the runway with a display of enviable short skirts, tight-fitting trousers, leather pants and vests which are sure to be wardrobe classics. Upon closer inspection the luxe-ness of the pieces is evident using fabrics such as leather, tweed and vinyl. Some of my favourite pieces were adorned with glittery embroidery and nothing short of perfection.

Cozy Kitchen with lots of character

I love following other blogs whether it be interior design or fashion blogs but the truth is I don't get to do it as often as I used to. Over the weekend I took some time to catch up on my favourites and came across this cozy kitchen on Grey and Scout blog. The kitchen is designed by Jute Home in San Francisco. With backgrounds in art, antiques and architecture, Jute Home weaves unique furnishings and finishes into living spaces without fuss or clutter. At Jute they believe "home design is not about our style, its about the best version of yours"

Jute's portfolio could keep me busy for hours pouring over the unique and character filled interiors but upon seeing this specific space it was love at first sight. I know I throw the word around here a lot but I truly love everything about this space, ordinarily I can find something I would change or at least one flaw. This space is the exception, I love the combination of modern elements such as the cabinets, hardware and fixtures paired with the kitchen table and mix matched seating as opposed to an island. See more of this kitchen after the jump and Jute's portfolio here.

Banana Bread

I could spend hours watching the Food Network and regardless of the time of day I leave more hungry than I was to begin with. Recently I have been trying to cook more and websites such as Martha Stewart Online or The Food Network site are great resources. Last week I baked banana bread for the first time alone, I am a longtime fan but never actually baked one without help. It would be an understatement to say I was feeling proud because I for one am no baker. However a lot of the credit must go to Martha Stewart online which has super easy to follow instructions and lots of recipes to choose from. Next time I'm going to get a little more adventurous and try one of these yummy options below, (including one that is gluten free).

Spring Makeup Trends from Fashion Week 2014

In an attempt to diversify LDB and include more of my loves you will notice a more evident beauty and fashion presence. I have focused a lot in the past weeks on Fashion especially since Mercedes Benz NYFW and Paris Fashion week had some especially exciting collections showing. Now that I have watched over the shows and gotten my hands on some of my favourite publications such as Glamour, Vogue and Elle I have had time to take a deeper look into the beauty element. Below see some of my favourite spring makeup trends from Fashion Week 2014 via Glamour.

Trend 1: Ethereal White Eyeshadow and Liner

The white eye makeup trend was spotted all over the place from Jenny Packham, Tibi, Alice + Olivia, and Altuzarra showed some of our favorite takes on the look. A wash of iridescent whites and pinks at Alice + Olivia (shown) gave lids a dewy freshness.

Crisp & Chic Bedroom : Shop the Look

I often troll other interior design blogs, magazines or Pinterest looking for inspiration and when I came across this space it was love at first sight. There is very little in a master bedroom I love less than an upholstered headboard, and I have had my eye on one at Walkers World ( one of my favourite local home decor stores) for a while now. On seeing this picture I have to admit that it was the headboard I noticed first, the Hermes throw a close second but upon inspection I realized there were many more things to love - that chevron carpet for one. Part of the allure of this sophisticated space is the fact that it is gender neutral, regardless of the women's shoes on the floor, it's a space both men and women would love to sleep in. Shop headboards and throws below along with some fabulous agate trinket boxes and bookends that would be perfect for a chic master bedroom like this one.

Burberry Prorsum Womenswear Autumn / Winter 2014 - The Bloomsbury Girls

I have to admit I have had this scheduled for weeks now and never got around to it, I even entertained the thought of not posting at all because the date was well past but the collection entitled The Bloomsbury Girls which was revealed Feb 17th at London Fashion Week was too major not to share. The collection was free spirited with stunning details such as the hand painted boots and belts. Cashmere, silk and embroidered tulle lace were among the luxurious fabrics used while the colour palette was made up of pale raspberry, olive, sand, and blackcurrant. The softly tailored trenches and suede overcoats were painted with flowers in broad brushstrokes and filmy tea dresses were layered with long shawls tucked into belts and horse blankets and carpetbags served as finishing touches.

Supermodel, Cara Delavigne

According to the press release: “The collection takes creative inspiration from the British decorative art of the Bloomsbury set and Charleston, the country home and meeting place for the writers, painters and intellectuals who formed the group.”

Vintage Tea at Fisherpond

This past Friday The Know Me Love Me Foundation held a vintage tea party at the historic Fisherpond Great House. Fisherpond was the perfect backdrop for the vintage theme and the whole event was enchanting. The KMLM team was made up of a dynamic group of women and it was an honour to work with them. There were a number of tables located throughout the house and outside in the magical gardens each with mix matched china, fabulous flowers by John and savoury and sweet treats by some of the leading restaurants and caterers on the island. One of the definite show stoppers were Frances' cupcakes which are edible pieces of art and are as tasty as they are beautiful.

A Chic California Beach House

Chic; originally a French word is very prevalent in my vocabulary and I am often drawn to a space or outfit because of it's chic-ness. The word chic is defined in the dictionary as follows: casual and understated style, as in dress or d├ęcor, that expresses a specified trendy lifestyle or activity. This California Beach house featured on the pages of House Beautiful magazine has both rustic and traditional pieces making it not only comfortable but chic as well.

Beauty Buzz : The Oscars Best

I posted earlier about my favourite Oscar looks but there were some definite beauty trends emerging that need addressing. I mentioned earlier that I am no expert on fashion and the same can be said for beauty, however I can identify and do appreciate when a trend is on point or a look is flawless. Also, lucky for me there are various fashion and beauty blogs out there that I follow to keep me on the right track. My humble observations in terms of Oscar Beauty are as follows, the side part and ear tuck seems to have replaced the ballet bun and the look is both glamorous and classic. Red Lips have been replaced by coral and orangish shades while smokey eyes, and natural makeup remain as a Red Carpet beauty staple for many. See more Oscar beauty news on Vogue
Sandra Bullock and Cate Blanchett sporting loose curls and the ever popular side part and ear tuck "look".

Dressed to Impress: The Oscar's Best

I am definitely no authority on fashion but I do enjoy it and love following along online or tv as stars walk the red carpet, I also look forward to the very entertaining (and inappropriate ) Fashion Police on the E Network. This year The Oscar's red carpet was full of show stopping looks that reinvented old hollywood glamour in a classy and non-costumey way. I was rather pleased with myself when I noticed that almost all of my favourites were listed on Vogues top ten list. All images via Vogue. See my best below,
