Off to the Beach

This weekend my family and I are off to the beach house! We have one on the South East of the Island but we are staying at a friends one in a popular summer spot called Cattlewash on the East. Cattlewash is alive with activity in the summer months and it's a very casual and friendly atmosphere with people floating from house to house. I will be sure to post lots of pics on my instagram but until then I thought I would share a few "beach chic" decorating ideas.

1. Paint - For a light airy feel, paint walls in white. If you are going for a more traditional feel then dark hardwood floors offer a nice contrast.
2. Use texture - Rugs, cushions, ottomans, throws etc
3. Use double duty items for example, a wicker basket adds texture and interest but can also double as storage for magazines or beach towels.
4. Get creative - Use a collection of hats to create a feature wall that adds interest and texture.

5. Display beach treasures - collect shells, sea fans, coral or even rope and incorporate them into your display. Mix up your display by using different sizes and shaped vases or apothecary jars.
