Office Envy

I have been away from my office for far too long since I have been in Antigua working on a project (see update here) and feel that I need to spend a whole week at my desk catching up with things. Every time I get back to my office I feel super inspired and motivated to work. First on my list of things to do is re vamp my inspiration board, after that a little bit of filing and organizing and then blog blog blog! I am loving these three very different home offices spaces below.

Reading Nooks & Window Seats

One thing that I have been missing recently is reading. There is nothing better than cuddling up in a comfy chair with a good book and a cup of coffee or tea. Whether the space is cozy or contemporary a reading nook needs good light, lots of pillows and to be comfortable. I love these three very different reading spaces and I'm dreaming of curling up very soon with a good book. I welcome any suggestions for a gripping page turner. What are you reading now?

Antigua Cottage Update

As I've mentioned before here I've been in Antigua working on a Rustic Island Cottage. The travertine floor tile has been installed, kitchen cabinets and countertops are going in and it's now time for the fun part - soft furnishings and landscaping! I'm focusing on keeping everything simple so all the fabrics are white which compliments the dark wood and my accent colour is apple green which picks up on all the tropical flora outside. I'm thinking palm trees, stone pathways, a big comfy daybed and maybe an outdoor shower. For more of my project inspiration follow lovedesignbdos on pinterest and for updates visit LDB's facebook page here

Laundry Love

The reality is that we spend a lot of time doing laundry and who is to say that the laundry space can't be both functional and stylish. Baskets can be used for storage and bring texture and interest to the space. Glass jars or apothecary jars are also good for storing detergent and make a good display. These laundry rooms are proof that a space can be both practical and pretty.

Loving White and Wood

Recently I have found myself very inspired by the simplicity of white interiors paired with wood. Whether its contemporary spaces with dark woods and clean lines or rustic spaces with lighter more distressed wood - I'm loving it! What is your preference? Rustic vs Contemporary - I want to know!

Get Inspired!

One of my favourite parts of my office is my inspiration board. While the internet is overflowing with beautiful images and inspiration I still love to pour over magazines and rip out pages and pin them to my board. I also have photos, fabric swatches, paint samples and inspirational quotes pinned up too. Do you have an inspiration board and if so, what's on it?

Simple Chic

Recently I've been finding myself drawn to simple spaces with clean lines and a few key elements. These spaces are perfect examples of how a few key pieces, neutral colours and clean lines can be both chic and timeless.

I have to admit that I have been so caught up in life the last few weeks that I have neglected one of the things that truly makes me happy. I have been lucky enough to spend the last couple weeks in beautiful Antigua and now back home in Barbados and between working on a tropical island cottage, paddling boarding, boat cruising and spending time at my beach house its no wonder that I have had little time to get on the computer and the internet. I am now catching up on weeks worth of posts from some of my favourite blogs as well as pinning. Interiors, Architecture,Fashion, Lifestyle & Food are definitely some of my most common pins and I'm genuinely happy when I get lost browsing beautiful images. While these images are all in different categories one thing is evident - it's summer. Time for simplicity, relaxing and living life. Lots of love ***

Detail Oriented

There are so many perfect little details in this space that make it what it is. I'm loving the oversized orchid, simple furniture with white upholstery, the textured rug, and that tray on the table. Pair these elements with huge windows and lots of natural light and you have a stunning yet simple space.

Kitchen & Bathroom Inspiration

I have been in Antigua the past week working on a Caribbean cottage and even though things are taking longer than expected I'm enjoying the beautiful views from the work site and getting to see my friends after work. Tomorrow I'm going shopping for travertine floor tiles and corian countertops for the bathroom and kitchen. These rustic rooms have been my inspiration.

Brilliant Bar Carts

Stylish and functional, bar carts are back. Since 2010 bar carts have been making their comeback and I've been lusting for one ever since. I try not to post about the same thing too often and especially not twice in the same year but since my first bar cart post in January here I have acquired even more of an appreciation and fallen in love with a few from Society Social along the way. Society Social has been featured on blogs and magazines around the world including Adore and House Beautiful. They sell bar carts, chairs, tables and much more on their online shop and their super talented and fashionable founder Roxy also finds time to blog at My Cup of Te. To see more bar carts, entertaining ideas & fun cocktails follow lovedesigninc on pinterest

I'm slightly obsessed with details and vignettes as you can see throughout this blog as I'm constantly posting about details. My love for the little things only grew when I visited the Kips Bay Show House and Elle Decor Modern Life Concept House and found myself snapping little things rather than the big picture. To me it is the combination of little things that make the big picture what it is. I have to admit that I throw the word vignette around a lot and never really knew the meaning so I went old school today and looked it up in the dictionary ( when I think vignette I think of an artful grouping of pretty or meaningful things ). What do you think of and do you group things of significance or just pretty?

vi·gnette (noun) :
1.a decorative design or small illustration used on the titlepage of a book or at the beginning or end of a chapter.
2. a decorative design representing branches, leaves, grapes,or the like, as in a manuscript.

Coastal vs Tropical

While pinning away the other day I came across an image and could not decide whether or not it should be filed in my "Coastal Decor" or "Tropical Living" folder. I then wondered to myself what is the difference or is there even a difference? When I think of tropical style I automatically think of dark woods, white linens and tropical plants. When I think of coastal style I think of soft blues and beiges, white shells and rattan furniture. What do you think of when you think of the two and is there really a difference? More of Blogfest 2012 in NYC

I’m on my way back to Barbados from Blogfest2012 in NYC and I’m far from ready to be going back home. I have been to New York before but I fell in love with the city this trip and was looking for any excuse to stay. Some of my highlights included brunch at Balthazar with my mum and sister, seeing Sister Act on Broadway, visiting the Jonathan Adler store in Soho, all of the greenery throughout the city- Bryant Park & Central Park, meeting all of the very inspiring bloggers at Blogfest2012 especially the super nice and incredibly talented Angela from Casa Sugar, snapping photos with Thom Filicia at The Savant Experience Party, the Kravet Studio tour(I imagine this is what heaven looks like!), the Elle D├ęcor and Kips Bay show houses and the very trendy New Traditionalists Party where I got my second glimpse of my new style crush – interior designer Jon Call aka Mr Call Designs. The line up at Blogfest2012 was so impressive and all of the designers, editors and the Kravet family blew me away and have given me a lot to blog about during the upcoming weeks. If you haven't already seen my highlights of Blogfest2012 you can see them here.

Highlights of Blogfest 2012

I don't even know where to start this one, I am feeling so incredibly inspired and every day at Blogfest 2012 continues to get better and better. It has been a hive of activity since the first minute and I am struggling to pick a few favourites. The bloggers, sponsors, organizers, speakers and everyone involved are all beyond amazing and I continue to be impressed by everyone I meet. Blogfest 2012 kicked off at the Kips Bay Show house and Margaret Russell, editor of Architectural Digest was there to greet us all and she is even more fabulous in person! From there we headed to The Savant Experience center where I was blown away by the integration of technology and design and got a photo op with Thom Filicia and my new blogging buddy Angela from Casa Sugar!

The Countdown is on - Blogfest 2012

The countdown is on! Blogfest 2012 is a week away and I’m super excited (and a little nervous too!) I arrive in New York next week Thursday for some sightseeing and shopping and then it’s Blogfest time. I have a long list of things to do and I’m excited for every event at Blogfest but there are some that I am especially excited for. I also cannot believe that I am going to be surrounded by such incredibly talented bloggers, going to events sponsored by magazines that I read and love and getting the opportunity to hear interior designers that have inspired me.

Herb Garden

I recently moved into a small apartment and one thing I am missing is a garden. I won't pretend that I have a green thumb but I love plants and flowers. I got given a beautiful orchid for my birthday but I'm ready for a little bit more green so when I get back from New York for Blogfest I plan to start a small indoor herb garden. I'm loving all of these ideas especially the clean contemporary white pots. Some of my herb garden must haves are basil, chives, parsley and rosemary.

Love life !

I'm still a little under the weather but I'm itching to get out of the house and do something. I may not be up to riding around on a bicycle or surfing (who am I kidding? I can't do that on the best of days!) but I definitely think I could handle a coffee or tea and a beautiful view. Happy Weekend and lots of love***

Breakfast in bed

Both yesterday and today I have been home in bed with the flu and while I should be using this time to be productive I have just felt super blah and been a big bum and the overcast weather outside is not helping the situation! My bed looks a little something like this - definitely unmade, the sheets are all rumfled. I have piles of books and my laptop on the bed with me and the bedside is overflowing with tissues and half drunk orange juice. The only thing I'm missing is a glam tray filled with beautiful breakfast in bed. Look out soon for an exciting post about Blogfest 2012 and how to win a FREE trip to Barbados with Loop Barbados

Tropical Living

One of my favourite design styles though I'm sure its not defined anywhere is tropical style. Large open spaces, dark woods, white linens and lots of greenery make for a perfect space if you ask me. My dream home would be in the country surrounded by canefields with gusty breezes and big views and look something like this...

Loving Lucite

The iconic ghost chair has been a longtime favourite of mine and more and more I see lucite furniture pieces popping up around the space. Apart from being more contemporary their transparency makes them take up less visual space and perfect. Lucite furniture can be paired with both traditional and more modern pieces and is incredibly transitional.

When life hands you lemons

I love unexpected and inexpensive items used for decorative purposes. Aside from putting lemons in a bowl in the kitchen I have never really given them much thought as a decorative accessory until now.Whether in a flower arrangement, simply placed in a bowl or creatively used as place card holders, lemons are a affordable way to add some beauty and fun and when you are done with them - make lemonade! :)

Inspired Office Spaces

I'm back in my office today for the first time in way too long and feeling very inspired. I was originally planning to do a post on tropical living but after getting back to my desk I wanted to share some inspiring office spaces instead. I have to admit that I do love my office but I would love it even more if I had a huge Mac screen, Parsons desk, wall sized inspiration board or had any of the characteristics of these beauties below.

Inspiring Ladies

Love Design* has been lacking consistent posts recently because I have been in a funk and feeling anything but inspired, which is hard to believe when there are so many inspiring individuals around the place and Pinterest is brimming with inspiration, but it's true. Over the weekend I spent an amazing weekend at my uncle's house; Belair Great House and one of these inspiring individuals came to visit. It seems just talking to her was what I needed to remember why I love what I do and after our conversation I was eager to get back in the office and back to work. This week has been hectic and I've been working on different blogs for next week and I was scheduled today to blog about the incredibly talented Crystal Gentilello but in the process of doing research I kept coming across some very inspiring ladies. I cannot possibly list all today because then this post would be even longer than it already is but I will take you through my little chain of events and a few of the inspiring ladies that brought me here today.

I went onto the Everygirl (my new favourite obsession) and saw an article about Crystal Gentilello which caused me to check out her new website and fall in love with every single room she designed and styled. I then went back to the Everygirl and re read an article about my very favourite Decorista; Ashlina Kaposta. After this I checked out images on Pinterest and was brought right back to the Everygirl who had featured Taylor Sterling of the Glitter Guide. I then decided to read more about the founders of the amazing Everygirl; Alaina and Danielle

It wouldn't be fair not to mention the inspiring lady that prompted me to get back to work so I want to thank Kimberly from Loop Barbados and also mention her very talented co founder Melanie. Make sure to check out their new website here for a chance to WIN a FREE trip to Barbados. (more on this next week!)
